The Tome was a sponsored team project for Motorola done with industrial designer Matt Marocco exploring the handheld experience of the near future. This device is a holistic learning device that grows with students as they progress through grade levels, shown here at a 4th to 5th grade level.
The specific applications shown below include the
Tomesville hub and corkboard organizer and the field trip guide.
"Tomesville" lesson hub aids the teacher in keeping students focused by locking out other lessons/applications until it is time for that subject.
The Corkboard organizer and stickies encourage the students to organize and prioritize their homework based on criteria that are important to them (ie. favorite subjects).
The field trip guide creates an augmented reality experience that generates questions based on that specific field trip location. It also offers a localized positioning system and wayfinding system. Thus keeping the students engaged and safe.
